    How Does Your Collar Fit?

We noticed an article in the Wall Street Journal that notes the dangers of wearing ill-fitting clothes. Some of the usual suspects included too-tight jeans, undergarments, and shoes. We were surprised to see that shirts made the list:

Some experts are saying that a shirt collar that’s too tight may cause headaches and vision problems due to reduced circulation to the brain and eyes. Even more surprising, “67% buy shirts that are smaller than their necks, according to a 1993 study at Cornell University.”

The next time you buy a shirt…make sure that your collar has the right fit!

Mother of Pearl Buttons Come Standard

We’re always working on improving all aspects of our dress shirts, and today we’re excited to announce that all shirts will come with Mother of Pearl Buttons as standard. From now on, when you select “Standard” buttons, these buttons will no longer be clear plastic …instead, the Standard buttons are now Mother of Pearl buttons.

We don’t yet have colored, or dyed, Mother of Pearl buttons, but do hope to get them in the coming weeks. Thanks for everyone who continues to provide feedback, as you can tell, it really does help.

    No ‘Dart’ About It…

Pleats, creases, seams…we’ve heard people refer to darts in many different ways…but we wanted to spend a few minutes to talk about what darts are, and what they can do for a shirt.

A dart is a tailoring technique used to help give clothing shape. To put things simply, darts are a special type of fold that the tailor sews into the a piece of clothing in order to ensure that the garment properly follows the shape of the body in a custom garment.

Depending on the difference in width between the shoulder, chest, and midsection dimension on a shirt, a tailor may utilize darts in the lower back to help cinch in the shirt where the dimensions are the smaller. Generally, the more of a difference between the chest and the midsection measurements, the higher the likelihood the shirt will have darts.

For reference, the shirt on the left of the photo has darts, and the shirt on the right does not.

What’s your preference; Darts or No Darts?

Stained your favorite white shirt? Here’s a cleaning tip!

Those little stain remover bleach pens you’ve seen may seem like a good idea at the moment, but it’s best to avoid using them. especially on white shirt, unless you want to replace the stain with a nice little circle of bleached out fabric.

Instead, make a half water, half detergent dilution with your liquid laundry detergent (nothing with bleach in it).

Use plain water to gently work the worst of the stain away, then soak the stain in the diluted detergent for about 20 or 30 minutes before washing. If the stain’s particularly tough, use an old (but clean) toothbrush with soft bristles to brush away the rest of stain. Alternate between brushing the top and underside of the stain for best results.
